Hi there.
So, I’ve recently come to the conclusion that I should jump on the blogging bandwagon, but being the lazy pseudo-hermit that I am, I couldn’t be bothered to put forth the energy involved in making myself known to all you lovely people. What makes today different, you may ask?
I was bored. So rather than continuing to stare at my future dinner in an effort to convince it to thaw faster, I decided to pass the time by making a blog.
Welcome.
I suppose, since I’m new here, I probably shouldn’t just jump in to the random subjects that are sure to populate this page in the near future, (and I do enjoy making silly lists,) so let me tell you a few things about myself:
- I live here. For those of you too lazy to follow the link (don’t feel bad…I’d be too lazy, too), “here” is Austin, Texas. And I love it here.
- I am originally from Texas. Have never lived anywhere but Texas. Don’t really have any aspirations to move away from Texas.
- That being said, I shall probably never move out of Austin. Until December of last year (2006), I spent my entire life in (semi)rural East Texas. Henderson, Bullard, Mt. Selman, Huntsville. Places of which you’ve probably never heard. Places that are…conservative. I am not conservative. So I moved to Austin, the most liberal town in the state. And henceforth, I will probably have to endure a very skeptical “Austin, huh?” from each of my conservative family members whenever I visit.
- I’m left-handed. This has no bearing on anything concerning this blog, but I thought I’d share it anyway.
- I read a lot. And a lot of what I read is incredibly nerdy. So you’ll probably find a lot of references to Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter in the following posts. Consider this your advanced warning…and apology.
- I am a photographer. I love it. I went to school for it. I’ll probably share some of it with you. But I don’t do it for a living.
- I don’t photograph weddings. No, not even for you.
- I listen to a lot of music. It’s a big influence in my life. And to avoid being that person, I’ll just stop there.
- I’m a lesbian.
- I minored in geology in college. (And yes, I am aware that Photography + Geology = The least practical degree EVER.)
- I should probably explain the title of my blog. Basically, I’m terrible at coming up with clever titles for things, and I sat here forever trying to think of something, so I took a page from my friend’s book and named it after something I saw near me. I have small figurine of a….well, a saxophonin’ gnome that I got as a birthday surprise from Toy Joy a couple years ago (his name is Gordon), and he caught my eye as I was staring into space, so I thought, “Why not?”
- I should probably also explain that I am not a gnome. I’m not even considered short. Just thought I’d clear up any confusion right away. (I do, however, have a friend who jokingly refers to herself as a gnome…because she is short…and…that’s all.)
- I am a Christian. But I’m a non-practicing Christian who freely acknowledges the validity of other faiths and beliefs, and I really hate religious debates because they never seem to go anywhere. So, again, to avoid being that person, I’ll just stop there.
- I like crime shows. I’ve seen every episode of Law & Order: SVU EVER. Don’t judge me.
- However, I also watch nerdy documentaries on the Discover Channel and Animal Planet, and I sometimes get caught up watching CNN for hours at a time.
- I’m addicted to cookies.
And there you are. Now you have a little something to go on as you read what will inevitably become my very boring blog. Feel free to drop by any time.
I shall spread word.
The word hath spread. And I, for one, am thrilled! I would still swing by your old blogspace on a certain social network just in case. Just hoping for an update because I miss your randomness. Those people you left me with in Conservativeland just don’t DO random. They just don’t get it! Random on!
You know, it’s ok to come out of the gnome closet. It really is. But that Law & Order: SVU closet? You better stay in that one.
Ignore Rebecca. L&O:SVU is great. So are nerdy books. And gnomes (well, she got one right).
What kind of cookies?
Welcome to Blogistan. Caroline sent me. Okay, if not weddings, what about a family day at the park? Just asking. We’re overdue for photographs, we hate portrait studios, and we have money.
Caroline – you’ve done a lovely job spreading that word there. Thanks.
JSS – I just have one word for you: nutmeg.
Rebecca – Don’t judge.
Marci – Chocolate chip. And L&W:SVU is indeed great. (Did you see Tuesday’s NEW episode?)
Fringes – How much money are we talking here?
Hey, you’ve gotta post more than once a month here. You can’t get us all riled up and then not post anything.
Caroline, I’m flattered to know you’re all riled up. I’ll get on that.
